Addressing Sustainable Development Challenges in Developing Countries, SIL UI Holds The 3rd JESSD International Symposium

The School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Indonesia (SIL UI) held the 3rd JESSD International Symposium on August 27-28, 2022. This year’s symposium carries the theme “Challenges in Sustainable Development in Developing Countries” and features a number of renowned speakers from academia. Development planning is one of the steps to overcome environmental problems that are now felt in the midst of people’s lives, such as extreme temperatures, storms, and large floods.

SIL UI Director Dr. dr. Tri Edhi Budhi Soesilo, M. Si said all these hazards if traced back to their initial causes are closely related to how humans interact and manage the environment around them: “This significantly increases the frequency and risk of disasters occurring both domestically and internationally. If not regulated, not controlled, or not significantly reduced, it can increase the risks that can jeopardize the livelihood of every person on the planet,” he said.

Tri Edhi Budhi Soesilo also explained that the world needs a change for the better immediately. He believes that The 3rd JESSD International Symposium is one of the right steps to contribute in making changes for the better. This is because we need to use an evidence-based approach and educate ourselves on environmental issues.

Furthermore, Tri Edhi Budhi Soesilo expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in The 3rd JESSD International Symposium. He hoped that the symposium could become a forum for exchanging information, ideas, and data in realizing the Sustainable Development goals, on a small to global scale.

“I wish you all the best for the Symposium and look forward to engaging in in-depth discussions and exchanging ideas with you. Together, we can look forward to a bright future filled with innovative research, knowledge and technology,” Tri Edhi Budhi Soesilo concluded.
